The Bovenzi Group is a boutique firm providing financial services consulting for banks, domestic and international financial regulatory agencies, private equity firms, and fintechs. Co-Founders John Bovenzi and Erica Bovenzi have decades of experience in government and private industry and understand the interests and pressures on both sectors.
About Us
Mr. Bovenzi is a well-recognized expert in the U.S. and international bank regulatory policy.
During a distinguished 28-year career in the public sector, Mr. Bovenzi served in a number of senior-level positions and was a principal adviser to nine FDIC Chairmen. During his subsequent 13-year career in the private sector, Mr. Bovenzi was a senior partner in Oliver Wyman’s financial services practice before leaving to co-start the Bovenzi Group.
At Oliver Wyman (2009-2020), Mr. Bovenzi worked on banking issues related to risk management, compliance, corporate governance, management strategy, failure resolution, asset management and sales, deposit insurance and new bank charters. He also served as the Co-Chair of the Bipartisan Policy Center’s bank failure resolution task force.
At the FDIC (1981-2009), Mr. Bovenzi served as the Deputy to the Chairman and Chief Operating Officer for 10 years, directing day-to-day operations for bank supervision, risk management, compliance, deposit insurance, failure resolution, and internal operations. In 2008, he also served at the Chief Executive Officer of IndyMac Federal Bank while the bank was owned and operated by the FDIC.
Mr. Bovenzi also directed the FDIC’s bank closing and receivership management activities (1992-1999), served as the Deputy to the FDIC Chairman (1989-1992), and was instrumental in the start-up of the Resolution Trust Corporation (RTC) and its merger into the FDIC.
Mr. Bovenzi holds a Ph.D. in Economics from Clark University and a BA in Economics from the University of Massachusetts. He is the author of numerous publications including, “Inside the FDIC: Thirty Years of Bank Failures, Bailouts, and Regulatory Battles” and was the Chief Editor of “Managing the Crisis, the FDIC and RTC Experience.”
Erica Bovenzi
Ms. Bovenzi is a seasoned executive with a proven record of leading corporate and organizational change in periods of crisis, growth and development.
From 2010 to 2013, Ms. Bovenzi served as the Chief Administrative Officer of Promontory Financial Group, a global financial services consulting group. She successfully supported the organization in a period of rapid multi-national growth in business, staff and facilities.
Previously, Ms. Bovenzi enjoyed a distinguished 20-year career as Deputy General Counsel of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) and the Resolution Trust Corporation. In this role, she provided legal support for all aspects of corporate operations including statutory compliance, governance, ethics, contracting, human resources, employment litigation, and outside counsel management.
As part of her focus on organizational growth, diversity, and leadership, Ms. Bovenzi has spent much of her career serving as a mentor and executive coach, including serving as the Dean of the FDIC’s Corporate University School of Leadership. In addition, Ms. Bovenzi served as counsel for the International Association of Deposit Insurers.
Ms. Bovenzi has a Juris Doctor from St. John’s University School of Law and a B.S. in Psychology from the State University of New York at Buffalo.
